Material Preparation and Surface Treatment
The first step in creating a fiberglass mold is to prepare the appropriate materials. You will need basic supplies such as fiberglass cloth, resin, a curing agent, and a mold release agent. The choice of fiberglass cloth is crucial; it is generally recommended to use a medium-alkali fiberglass cloth with a density of 300 g/m². For the resin, an unsaturated polyester resin is recommended due to its superior flow properties and curing performance. For the mold release agent, either a wax-based product or a polyvinyl alcohol solution can be used to ensure that the mold releases smoothly from the prototype.

Molding Process and Quality Control
Creating the Prototype: First, you must create a prototype-this can be a wooden model, a clay model, or a 3D-printed model. The surface of the prototype must be smooth to facilitate easy release during the subsequent demolding process.

Applying the Release Agent: Apply the mold release agent evenly across the surface of the prototype to prevent the resin from adhering to it.

Laying the Fiberglass Cloth: Cut the fiberglass cloth into appropriately sized pieces and lay them over the prototype layer by layer. After laying each layer, brush on the resin to ensure that the fiberglass cloth is thoroughly saturated.

Curing Process: Allow the resin to cure naturally; this typically takes 24 hours. During the curing process, moderate heating may be applied to accelerate the reaction.

Post-Processing and Safety Precautions
Once the mold has cured, it requires trimming and sanding to remove rough edges and uneven areas. If the mold surface contains air bubbles or defects, these can be repaired using resin. Finally, inspect the mold to verify its structural integrity and surface smoothness, ensuring that it meets the required specifications for its intended use. Throughout the manufacturing process, ensure adequate ventilation to prevent exposure to volatile resin fumes, which can be harmful to human health.
